New Honda 4-Stroke Brushcutters/font>
Honda has released two new brushcutters powered by its new Generation II GX35 1.2kW (1.6hp) Mini 4, four-stroke engine. The new straight-shaft brushcutters are the UMK435, LN4U loop-handle and UN4U bike-handle models which will be replacing the 31cc, 1.1kW (1.5hp) UMT431 units.
Generation II Mini-4s have been redesigned to increase output from 1.5hp to 1.6hp while reducing the overall size and of course weight. Generation II GX35 engines are even easier to start (recoil starter reduced 45%). GX35 engines have over a 30% reduction in fuel consumption and over 80% less oil consumption equating to about 40 – 60% saving on total running costs compared to 2-stroke counterparts.
Both the loop & bike handle models use a solid inner drive-shaft that drives a heavy-duty gear head. Both models will come with a new heavy-duty manual nylon line head and a four-tooth metal blade with appropriate guards to match. The loop-handle model will come with a single operator harness while the bike handle will come with a full operator harness for added comfort.
These new UMK435 brushcutters will be available during October from Honda MPE, 1954-56 Hume Highway, Campbellfield 3061 (Private Bag 19, Somerton 3062); (03) 9270-1111 F: (03) 9270 1122 W: www.hondampe.com.au.

WeedBoss From B&S/font>
Briggs & Stratton Australia has further diversified its range with the introduction of “WeedBoss” brushcutters. Powered by B&S 34cc “Fource” (Geddit?) 4-cycle engines the initial range consists of three models. There are two line trimmers (SS-16 bent- & SS-18 straight-shaft). Both have a popular “D-handle” while the straight-shaft unit also has a shoulder strap. The BC-8 brushcutter features a clutch and is suitable for both nylon line and steel-blade use.
To further differentiate Weedboss from other products on the market, B&S has released initial WeedBoss stocks with the popular “Kwik Loader” easy-loading line heads as standard (future shipments may revert to conventional, lower cost “tap'n'go” heads with Kwik Loader as an option).
B&S “Fource” engines deliver easy starting, no-mix convenience, lower noise (developing torque @ lower rpm), and lower emissions compared to conventional 2-strokes.
Like all B&S engines, “Fource” engines are available to OEMs worldwide with service and support from the global B&S Dealer Network.

Great Dane Hazard Area Mower/font>
With operator safety (OHS) fast becoming one of the biggest issues in this industry, many contractors, councils and other employers are being forced to give greater consideration the safety of their workers. Any product that eliminates a hazard must be considered. To address these issues in a mowing context, Great Dane Australia has developed the groundbreaking Hazard Area Mower (HAM). HAM is a fully remote-control mowing unit that allows operators to be completely removed from dangerous situations like steep inclines. The remote-control unit duplicates the machine’s complete function range. It can be switched from "remote operation" to "operator on board" just by flicking a switch. This allows the operator to complete normal mowing tasks conventionally, then when approaching areas considered dangerous, flick to “remote” mode and continue the job in a 100% safe environment.
HAM can be ordered prefitted to a new Great Dane ZTR or as a retrofit kit for an existing machine. HAM suits all Great Dane units whether with 48", 52", 61" or 72" decks.
HAM may have many other potential applications such as toxic chemical application. It can operate in most areas considered unsafe for an operator.

Parklands 35th Year Brushcutter Offering/font>
To celebrate 35 years in Australia, Parklands has released the latest range of Tanaka brushcutters. The TBC-230 and TBC-230B (bent shaft) have a 1hp engine (0.76 kW) commercial engine (with a primer for easy starting).
These three new units feature a smoother running engine, anti-vibration system and low noise muffler. An important feature is the extra-long-life, fully-supported, shaft. Other features include centrifugal clutch and durable alloy head. The units can work continuously in any position (ideal for edging or pruning, with the pruner attachment). The TBC-230 is one of the lightest brushcutters of its class and great value, because of its long-life components.
Also part of this range is the split-shaft (1,000-hour) TBC-230S 5-in-1 multi-tool. The versatile TBC-230S has a spring-lock, which allows users to quickly change from brushcutter, to edger, hedgetrimmer, pole-saw or tiller, in seconds. It is easy to use, convenient and very competitively priced, saving the need to buy five separate tools, each with their own engine. Another great advantage is that the length of the machine can be easily "split" for transportation in the boot of a conventional motor vehicle.
The three units can also be fitted with the new Smart Start recoil system accessory, making the unit one of the lightest and easiest starting brushcutters on the market today. Magic Wrap/font>
Magic Wrap is an interesting product recently introduced by Briggs & Stratton. Magic Wrap is described as "The Emergency Repair Kit in a Roll" with a wide variety of applications including plumbing, auto/ag/l&g machinery, electrical, household etc.
The "Magic" effect occurs as one stretches the tape off the roll and wraps it around whatever one intends to bind. The tape has no glue or sticky side. The stretching and wrapping causes the layers to bond together and, over time, the result is a strong, almost laminated bind which will not come off or unravel yet will conform to irregular surfaces and shapes. The manufacturer claims it is water- and airtight to 100psi and works in temperatures ranging from -18oC to 100oC.
Magic Wrap is available from Briggs & Stratton in 2.4 and 4.9 metre rolls. Briggs & Stratton is located at: 8 Dansu Court, Hallam 3803 (PMB 5048, Dandenong 3175); (03) 9796 4900 F: (03) 9702 3606.

Rover “Clever Blade” System/font>
Who would have thought that punching some holes in a mower blade would make a difference?
Who would have thought that if it did, nobody would have done it before?
This correspondent has put his hand up to answer both questions!
The “Clever Blade” System has been developed by Rover Mowers for use with its landmark its Professional Rover Pro Cut 560, Self-Propelled, 4–stroke mower. The blades have three small holes, roughly at the point where the up-sweep of the blade begins. The new cutting system requires four of the “clever” blades to be fitted to the disk. It gives a closer, cleaner cut in all conditions with all varieties of turfgrass. The “Clever” blade uses the same disk/nut/bolt/washer combination as the manufacturer’s 50cm (20”) units.
The new enhanced Rover “Clever Blade” (Part No: A16355) cutting system can be retrofitted to all 56cm (22”) Rover decks. Details are available from: 155 Fison Avenue (PO Box 1235) Eagle Farm 4009; (07) 3213 0222 F: (07) 3868 1010 W: www.rovermowers.com.au.

New Bobcat Mower Attachment /font>
Bobcat has extended its attachment range with a new 2.3m (90”) mower. With the existing 1.8m (72”) deck Bobcat now has two mower attachments available. The 2.3m deck is compatible with all Bobcat S series skid-steer loaders as well as the T190, T250 and T300 track loaders and the new Bobcat A300 all-wheel steer loader.
The free-floating mower has adjustable castor wheels on each corner, allowing it to follow ground contours. There is an optional centre-mounted fifth castor that can be removed if desired. The deck can cut down to 5cm (2”) in 12mm (1/2”) increments.
The rear-discharge mower attachment has a hydraulic motor driving a single V-belt, which in turn drives three pulleys, attached to the spindles. Each spindle powers one blade with overlap for a clean cut. There is a solid deflector directing clippings downwards.
Unlike rear-mounted 3-point hitch and mid-mount mowers, the Bobcat attachment functions like a front-mount with an outfront’s advantages like visibility and manoeuvrability. Further, the loader frame can raise and lower the deck to avoid damage when in transit. Bobcat’s patented blade shut-off device stops rotation as soon as it is raised.
For more information on Bobcat Australia’s mower attachment contact Bobcat Australia at: 30 Salisbury Road (PO Box 50) Hornsby 2077; 1800 643 853 (02) 9477 8551 F: (02) 9476 2712 W: www.bobcat.com.au.
