Honda Australia Hits 400,000 Mowers

Honda MPE manufactured its 400,000th Australian-made lawnmower on 6th December 2006. The company has achieved this milestone in the 18-years since it developed its "Buffalo" specifically to suit Australia's demanding conditions. Honda PE Director Robert Toscano was on hand as the Buffalo Classic rolled down the production line. "The Australian Buffalo range is not only performing well in Australia, but is being exported to all corners of the globe," he said. "This success goes to show that it is possible for Australia to produce top quality products and compete on the global stage."

Robert Toscano noted that there were similarities between Australia's tough conditions and those of some key export markets. "Many of our export markets have tough, dry grasses, meaning they require the quality and the proven ruggedness that the Honda Buffalo range offers." Honda Production Manager, Doug Brown, has worked at the manufacturing facility since operations began in 1988, and has seen the company achieve a number of milestones. "Seeing the 400,000th lawnmower is very satisfying, particularly in this highly competitive and demanding market segment. Doug felt that much of Honda's continued success was due to its products' suitability for demanding commercial applications.

Demand has been so strong that Honda recently expanded the Campbellfield plant to more than double its previous size, with Doug Brown managing the production of the complete Buffalo lawnmower range, as well as providing full warehousing and logistic services for the brushcutter range there. "I wonder how long it will be before we celebrate out 500,000th unit?" he wondered.
